Aluminium Chassis
BMW uses an aluminium chassis along with the aluminium integrated rear axle and the double-joint spring-strut front axle. The aluminum is mainly used to reduce the car weight which in turn enhances performance, fuel-efficiency, and stability. It also ensures excellent safety and precise handling.
Electronic Damper Control (EDC)
EDC is a technology that uses sensors to monitor all the car movements that influences drivability. These sensors send signals to the microprocessor where all the
measurements are evaluated and then the final commands are sent to the dampers. After receiving the final command, the solenoid valves adjust the dampers in accordance to the monitored road, load, and driving conditions. This innovation is designed to deliver supreme driving comfort and outstanding on-road safety. It also lower the vibrations in the wheel load and balance the movement of the car irrespective of the weight the car is carrying.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
Dynamic stability control is an advanced sensory technology that monitors the rotational speed of the wheels, the lateral acceleration, and the yaw rate. Yaw rate is the rotation of the wheels around the vertical axis. This information is further used to compare how the car is currently moving and how it should be moved with respect to the angle of the steering wheel and the applied acceleration. This is designed to optimize driving stability and also prevents skidding.
iDrive
iDrive is an innovative control concept that enables the driver to concentrate on his or her driving. All the major driving functions including the ignition starter switch, start/stop button, and other essential control switches are positioned around the steering wheel. This keeps the controls within easy reach of the driver and further reduces distraction and improves concentration. This computerized system also displays a LCD panel mounted in the car dash and a single controller knob on the center console that controls all the functions.
Adaptive Headlights
An adaptive headlight is one of the most significant innovations by BMW. It provides greater security while night driving or driving under poor weather conditions that reduce visibility. This ‘intelligent light’ technology, as named by BMW, features headlights that spin from side to side and are controlled by sensors. The sensors measure the angle of car’s curve, yaw rate, and the car’s velocity to gauge the ideal angle of the headlight. This ensures the best illumination ahead even during night or poor visibility.
BMW Online
BMW Online is also known as a Coonected Drive. It is an innovative concept patented by BMW to ensure that all the communication, information, and assistance systems installed in the car are completely integrated with each other. This is one of the key features of the BMW 7-Series. The system is featured with the BMW Assist that provides the drivers various information on the traffic conditions, traffic jams alerts and even a variety of information on hotels, restaurants and other sights in the area. It also gives them an opportunity to check their mails online. In case of emergency, this technology spots the location of the accident and automatically sends signals for help.
Xenon headlights
Xenon headlights are mainly incorporated for bright and intense illumination of the road. This ensures better visibility in bad weather conditions or in the dark, thereby contributing to safety. The light intensity of these headlights is more than twice that of the conventional halogen bulbs. It also consumes less energy because it ionizes at lower voltage, delivering a longer service life. To make sure that this strong light does not distract the approaching cars, BMW has also introduced a projection lens that directs the beam of light straight to the road.
iPod Interface
BMW also gives an opportunity to enjoy the flexibility of iPod. Drivers can now connect their iPods directly to the car audio system that helps them access all their stored tracks. A connector cable placed in the glove box is directly connected to the audio system that further helps easy connectivity of the iPod. It can be recharged automatically through a dedicated power source.
