Keep Your Map Ready
Going for a road trip without a map is the worst thing that can happen to you. It is a totally bad idea to set off on a trip without a route map. Make sure to mark out your route, exits and ideal rest stops before you head out for the day. Also keep your eyes open for any interesting spots on the way, and take some time to explore them. You can make your road trip extra exciting by visiting some interesting sites along the way.
Make Sure Your Vehicle is in Top Shape
Before you start your outing, take your car to the mechanic and get everything checked up. Ensure that all the fluids in the car are sufficient for the trip and that the
car is in the optimum condition for a highway ride. And if there is something that needs to be fixed in the car, get it done at a place that you trust completely. Additionally it can be more expensive when it is a have-to-repair situation. Also make sure to keep a roadside safety kit handy in case something untowardly happens.
If You Can, Book Hotels Before You Go
When having a road trip, you can have a lot of fun by stopping wherever you feel like. But you cannot think of a situation worse than not being able to stop because the hotel rooms are not booked. Conventions, busy seasons and hotel renovations can prove to be quite a threat if you have not booked in advance. Planning ahead and booking a hotel is another important part of making sure your trip is a happy one.
Smell the Roses
While the destination of your choice holds a lot of promise, the road may present itself in a beautiful way too. You never know what beautiful places are awaiting you, so it is better to take some time to explore them. Agreed that you have to reach to your destination, but the sites along the way can make your trek just that much more enjoyable. And wouldn't it be fun to share all these stories when you get back home.
Eliminate Distractions
One of the hazards that you face on a road trip is getting distracted. We all go through similar experience of distraction when the kids are too loud or the music is blaring, or may be the beautiful scenery outside. Whatever may be the reason, it is of utmost importance for the driver to concentrate on the driving. Of course this does not mean that the rest of the passengers sit like stone structures, but
road safety always has to come first.
Avoid Trouble
Travelling in the car with valuables and electronic gadgets can invite a thief. However if you take a little extra care, you can
avoid any kind of theft in your car. Try to find a spot which is well lit, and foot traffic. Additionally, hide your valuables carefully, if you have to leave them in the car. Also make sure that the windows are up and the doors are locked properly whenever you leave your car.
Pack an Overnight Bag
If your road trip includes an overnight stay also, pack a smaller bag. This way, you would not have to lug your huge suitcases in for just one night. You can also avoid repacking the car next morning.
Know Before You Go
We all understand the thrill of going on spontaneous road trips once in a while. But the feeling of being unprepared is a horrible experience. Check the road and weather conditions before you leave for the day. Or else you may have to tackle with rain or fog on the way. Knowing what to expect would help you choose the right highways and freeways as well as help you decide how long you are going to be in the car.
Watch That Speed
Sometimes, we get too carried away with the fun involved in road trips, and we press the accelerator pedal much more than necessary. And sometimes those last few miles can seem like so much longer than they actually are. But you should always refrain from speeding. Speeding does not promise anything apart from increasing the
chances of accidents. When you are driving a car, you are not only responsible for your car and yourself, but also the safety of your passengers.
