Some Interesting Guinness World Records on Cars


The Guinness world records is a reference book that will be published on a yearly basis, which will testify all the records set by the humans as well as by animals and natural elements. People do all kind of things to set a record; they tattoo their whole body, they piece it, they dance for hours, the break things which are much heavier than themselves but not all attempts will make an entry into the Guinness World Records. Most of them are rejected by the board of jury members who will judge the claims of a record, thus leaving no room for questioning the credibility of the record. Each years records will be set, some will be new while some other will be a record set beating the existing one.

Below mentioned are some interesting world records set related to cars:
  • Beating a Guinness World Record of the largest parade of a remarkable 884 Mini cars that happened in last May, the London & Surrey Mini Owners Club attained the new record by parading over 1450 Minis, a British made small car, as part of the London to Brighton Mini Run 2009.
  • Jervis Manupenu, Jonny Mirza, and Pete Hill hold the record of flipping a car by 360°, the fastest by a team, in 5.25 seconds. This happened on the set of Guinness World Records Smashed at Pinwood Studios on 15 April 2009.
  • Russ Swift from the United Kingdom performed 10 donuts with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII in 16.07 sec, to set a record for making the fastest spin in car.
  • A Chevy car that was weighing a total of 159.6kg was balanced on John Evanson’s head for 12 seconds whereby setting a world record of balancing the heaviest car on the head.
  • Fiat 500 Club Italia organized a parade of Fiat cars where 500 Fiat 500 cars participated, setting a record of parading the most number of Fiat 500 cars.
  • The combined effort of Gary and Shirley Duval from Australia bought out the world’s highest limousine, which measures 3.33m, from the ground to the roof. It is powered by two separate engines and is equipped with eight wheel independent suspension systems and drives on eight monster truck tyres.
  • Using over 1,068 Subaru cars, almost a kilometer long mosaic was created in the fields of Warwickshire. And the mosaic spelled the name Colin McRae. This huge mosaic of cars was created in the memory of Colin McRae, a WRC rally driver, who died a tragic death in a helicopter accident.
  • The Cornes & Company Limited has the record of parading the largest number of Ferrari cars. Almost 490 cars took part in the parade.
  • Panasonic has to its credit the record of building the world’s fastest car that has been powered by dry battery cells. Panasonic developed an Oxyride Racer that is 3.3 meter long, 78 centimeter wide, and 56 centimeter tall. The body of the car is built with plastic and toughened by carbon fibre and it weighs only 38 kilos. On just 192 Oxyride batteries, the car was travelling in an average speed of 105.95 kilometers per hour and maximum speed of 122 kilometers per hour.

  • The record for the largest Mazda car parade happened at New Zealand in October 2005. Mazda MX-5 cars were used in the parade; a total of 249 Mazda cars took part in a parade organised by Mazda.
  • Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel was the car used by Rainer Zietlow, Falk Gunold, Franz Janusiewicz, and Florian Hilpert to achieve a record for longest car journey using an alternative fuel. The team travelled 38137 kilometres that started from Cologne, Germany on 15 October 2006 and ended at Leipzig, Germany on 13 April 2007.
  • Two seater Smart cars were provided by Mercedes-Benz Italia SpA and Mercedes-Benz Belgium to the express delivery company TNT and the car magazine Top Gear at TNT’s air hub in Belgium which were used to achieved the a new Guinness World Record for the fastest loading of cars onto an aircraft set in October 2008. They were successful in loading Boeing 747 with 30 cars in less than 60 seconds, to be exact the team was able to fit in the cars in 35 minutes and 34 seconds.
  • Alberto Aires used a Chevette 78 to set a record for taking the most number of consecutive spins in a car. Aires was able to take a successful 82 spins.
  • In a Vauxhall Astra VXR 2006, Terry Grant was able to achieve the record for driving a car through the narrowest gap. The car was drove on two wheels through a gap of 68 centimeter.
  • Maren Bohl organized the parade where, about 178 BMW Isetta cars took part in setting a record for the largest parade of the BMW cars. The Isetta was a three wheeled car with from entrance that was produced during the 1950s.
  • By driving a Bentley Continental GT road car, the four times World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen from Finland set the fastest car on ice record. He drove the car through the Gulf of Bothnia frozen sea in Kuivaniemi, Finland for achieving the record.
  • Jurgen Hoenster drove a modified Audi A4 (B5) at a speed of 362.5 kilometers per hour to set the record for a maximum speed of the car with gas. The modified Audi A4 was called HS 650.
  • Subaru of America, Inc. Great Lakes Region in partnership with the Village of Itasca at 500 Park Boulevard in Itasca, Illinois, USA achieved the record for the longest parade of Subaru cars on 11 July 2009.
