The Maruti Esteem had been dominated the Indian market in the mid sedan segment for many years. The car was very popular among the Indian middle class families, but with the passage of time its popularity fades away. Moreover, new car models with better features flooding in the market have given a tough time to this old one. This has further compel the company to come up with a brand new model in mid sedan class.
The Maruti replaced the Esteem with the Swift Dzire to meet customer demands and to maintain its top position in the Indian car market. This car is the modified version of the Maruti Swift.
Maruti
Esteem was equipped with a powerful 1298 cc, 4-cylinder engine and it also fetched high resale value than any other cars in the market with a price tag of Rs 5-7 lakh. It delivered a maximum output of 85 bhp and was highly fuel-efficient. It had a couple of safety features like collapsible steering column, steel side impact beams and laminated windshields. The Esteem came with three variants LX, LXi, and VXi, all these were petrol engines and no diesel engines. The absence of diesel variant has been one of the major drawbacks.
The Esteem also lost fame due to its outdated features, style and mainly the high price tag. When much better sedans at lower price are available in the market! why the car buyers would opt the Esteem.
The Maruti Swift Dzire cost a lakh more than Esteem but provides better features like spacious leg room, power steering, fog lamps and automatic climate control systems. The car also has fabulous safety features like dual front
airbags, antilock-braking System (ABS) with booster assist, steering audio controls and i-CATS anti-theft facility. Many of these features are being offered for the first time in this segment. With such value added features Swift Dzire is doing well in the market and could rightly be placed as the perfect family car.
The Maruti Swift Dzire is available within the price range of Rs 4-6 lakh which is a competitive price in mid sedan segment. The new Swift Dzire comes in both petrol and diesel versions. The 1.3L petrol engine produces a maximum power of 87 bhp. The diesel engine 1.3L DDiS (Diesel Direct Injection System) offers a maximum torque of 190 at 2000 rpm. This new tavern has been a redesigned version of Swift that has wider rear space and more legroom. The company has retained the body style of the Swift in the new
Dzire as it is appreciated by the buyers. However, Maruti claims that Dzire is over all modification of Swift.
Further, the car is different from other models of Maruti with its 400 litre of boot space. However, the top end variant of Swift Dzire also comes with excusive top class luxury features like the all-new 6 spoke alloy wheels.
Overall, the car looks attractive, but like its ancestors, will the Dzire with low price tag and better features be able to rule the Indian market. Well time can only answer this question.
